The 5 Best Habits Of Effective Entreprenuers

Let’s face it, we all do things we know we shouldn’t do, and we all have our repetitive motions throughout the day that we don’t want to get rid of…but I think what a lot of us don’t realize, is that the same brain function that keeps us doing the things we shouldn’t, can actually aid in making the things we should do easier.

The difference between a negative habit and a positive routine is simply a choice. Habits are hard to form against your will, that’s why we all seem to think that the word ‘habit’ has a negative connotation to it, because the only habits we seem to form are the ones that are easy to get drawn into.

When you make the choice to form a positive habit, it is going to be hard, but if you stick with it and go through the motions, it becomes an almost second nature…and when it is a good habit that you’ve formed, you will reap the benefits.

So here is my pick for the best 5 habits for effective entrepreneurs:

1) Do Not Multitask:

Think about it. You can’t really do more then one thing at a time, even though you think you can. Heck, you can’t even THINK about more then one thing at a time. Try it. Try to visualize two objects in completely different scenes at once. You cant. Your mind can only hold one thing in focus at a time, and as such, you should stick to one task at a time.

The time it takes you to switch between tasks adds up during the day, so you end up loosing lots of work time. It is much more productive to focus on one thing with all of your energy then to switch between multiple things, which leads me to number two.

2) Wax On, Wax Off:

You don’t work at a car wash, I know that. And if you do, the fact that you are reading this tells me you have other plans for your future. So what does this age-old saying have to do with being effective in business? Concentration. It is much more effective to turn your work switch completely on, go at it 110% and work work work until its time for a break, at which point you go completely off.

Now when you’re on and at it, you need to have NO DISTRACTIONS. No cell phone, no Email, no Facebook, no Twitter, just work. When you’re off and unplugged, its important that you are COMPLETELY off. No work, no problem solving, no worrying, just do what you find relaxing.

3) Set Specific Goals:

It’s really as simple as that. All the techniques in the world can’t help you if you don’t know how to sit down and literally plan out what exactly you want out of the work that your going to do. If you don’t know where you are headed, all of your work will be sloppy and off track. You need to have a very clear and concise picture of the end goal, and it needs to be as specific as possible.

Once you know what you want, your mind can make it happen when you’re working toward it. When you are reading or researching, if you know specifically what you want out of the material, your mind is more likely to find it.

4) Do It and Like It:

That sounds harsh, but there is really no way around it. If you don’t like what you do at some level there is nothing that can give you fulfillment in a job or business selling that product or service…The funny thing is though, that as it turns out, liking something is more of a choice rather then an internal yes or no. You can CHOOSE to like something, and you will become much more productive as a result of it.

On the flip side though, if you continue to think about how much you hate something, then hating it will suddenly ascend outside your control…Your mind is a very powerful tool, but you must use it properly to be effective….and the proper balance leads me to the fifth and final habit.

5) Reward Yourself:

We’ve all heard it before, but how many of us actually do it? Rewarding yourself is extremely important when first forming your habits, and even more so to keep them enjoyable. Now it is important to note here that you need to use common sense when using this method…If your goal for example is to loose weight by dieting, then it wouldn’t be very smart to reward yourself with a piece of chocolate cake.

Instead, a better method would be to divide your work up and rank it by enjoyability…Working through some of the more boring or time consuming tasks can be rewarded with the more exciting ones.

In Closing:

So overall, nothing is going to make you more productive until you make a choice to do so. The effective habits above are only a small piece of what is really out there, but you have to choose to implement them and be consistent to get the desired results.

So…What are some of YOUR effective habits for getting things done?
